If you receive SSI, or your Social Security is paid on the 3rd, your last deposit was Thursday, December 31 and January brought nothing. February 1 is the first money since then — a 32-day stretch that catches people out every winter.

February 2027 calendar with the five Social Security and SSI payment dates marked in navy: February 1 for SSI, February 3 for the 3rd-of-month group, and February 10, 17 and 24 for the three birthday groups, with Presidents Day on February 15 marked as having no payment
Navy cells are payment dates. Nothing shifts in February 2027 — every group is paid on its normal day.

Why nothing moves this month

Social Security pays most retirees on a Wednesday set by your birth date. The rule on the calendar reads: “Benefits paid on Birth date on: Second Wednesday 1st - 10th; Third Wednesday 11th - 20th; Fourth Wednesday 21st - 31st.” In February 2027 those Wednesdays are the 10th, the 17th and the 24th.

The two early-payment rules that emptied January do not apply here. SSI moves earlier only when the 1st is a weekend or a federal holiday, and February 1, 2027 is a plain Monday. The 3rd-of-month payment moves only when the 3rd is a weekend or holiday, and February 3 is a Wednesday. Presidents Day is Monday, February 15 on the OPM holiday list, and no payment is due that day, so it shifts nothing.

What changes from January

SSI and 3rd-of-month readers: the gap ends. Your January benefit was paid on December 31, 2026, which is why January looked empty. February 1 or February 3 is your February money, back on the ordinary cycle. The January 2027 schedule explains why it happened.

Wednesday groups: no change either way. You were paid on January 13, 20 or 27 and you will be paid on February 10, 17 or 24. Your date sits earlier in the month simply because February 2027 starts on a Monday.

The amount is the 2027 rate. February is your second payment at the new cost-of-living rate, and the second with the 2027 Medicare Part B premium deducted if yours comes out of your benefit. If the deposit is not what you expected, compare it against the COLA notice SSA posted to your my Social Security Message Center in December.

Tips people ask for next

Is February short-changed because it has 28 days? No. Social Security pays a flat monthly benefit. The number of days in the month has nothing to do with the amount.

Do the banks being closed on Presidents Day delay my deposit? No payment is scheduled for February 15, so there is nothing to delay. A deposit already in your account stays available.

How long do I wait before reporting a missing payment? SSA’s instruction is to “allow three additional mailing days before contacting Social Security.” For a Wednesday payment that means waiting until the following Monday.

Will I get two payments in February? No. Every group receives exactly one February payment. March follows the same pattern, with SSI on Monday, March 1 and the 3rd-of-month group on Wednesday, March 3.

One thing to do today

Open your my Social Security account and look at the payment history for January. If it shows a deposit dated December 31, 2026, you are on the normal cycle and February 1 or February 3 will arrive as scheduled. If January shows nothing at all, call SSA at 1-800-772-1213 before your February date rather than after it.

Questions people ask about this

When is Social Security paid in February 2027?

Wednesday, February 10 if you were born on the 1st through the 10th, Wednesday, February 17 if you were born on the 11th through the 20th, and Wednesday, February 24 if you were born on the 21st through the 31st. The 3rd-of-month group is paid Wednesday, February 3.

Why was there no payment in January 2027?

Your January payment arrived on Thursday, December 31, 2026. That applies to SSI and to people paid on the 3rd, because January 1 was a federal holiday and January 3 was a Sunday. The Wednesday groups were paid normally on January 13, 20 and 27.

When is SSI paid in February 2027?

Monday, February 1, 2027. February 1 is a regular business day, so the payment is not moved earlier.

Which group am I in if I was born on the 20th?

The 11th–20th group, paid on the third Wednesday. In February 2027 that is Wednesday, February 17.

Is my February payment larger because of the 2027 COLA?

February is your second payment at the 2027 rate; the January payment was the first. If your Medicare Part B premium is deducted, the new premium is already coming out too, so the change in your deposit is the increase minus the premium change.

When is the March 2027 payment?

SSI on Monday, March 1 and the 3rd-of-month group on Wednesday, March 3, then the Wednesday groups on March 10, March 17 and March 24.

What do I do if my February payment does not arrive?

Allow three additional mailing days after your date, ask your bank whether a deposit is pending, check the payment history in your my Social Security account, then call SSA at 1-800-772-1213.

Benefit Calendar exists to answer one question plainly: when does the money arrive, and how much is it. Every date and dollar figure is checked against the original SSA, CMS, IRS or USDA document before it is published, re-checked by a second automated pass, and the source is linked next to it.
